Feed Phosphates are inorganic salts of phosphoric acid. Phosphorus is the second most essential element in the animal body after calcium. It plays a major metabolic role and has many physiological functions. Like the development of the skeletal tissue, energy utilization. Thus feed phosphates are used as necessaries in animal production to ensure optimal growth, fertility and proper bone development. Phosphates naturally occur mostly as phosphate rock or fluorapatite. Main regions to find the deposits include Russia, USA, North Africa, China. They can be obtained by open cast mining.

End-user/Technology

Phosphates in their crude form cannot be used by animals directly but they must be converted into a form which can be digested by the animal. The undesired impurities need to be removed or lowered to come up to an acceptable level. The industrial feed phosphate production is technically starts with pure phosphoric acid that is obtained from the apatite in a wet chemical process. The end users are the meat, pork and the poultry and livestock industry.

Market Dynamics

The market depends upon the consumption of meat, the pork and poultry industry, and developments in livestock industry. Thus the growing demand for meat is estimated to favor feed phosphate market growth over the next few years. Global feed phosphate market is projected to experience brisk growth due to rise in animal-based food products consumption across the world. Added to this, the demand for dairy products is increasing this is another factor that contributes to towards the market growth. The meat industry is industrializing on a large scale leading to a boost to the industry. There is increasing awareness about better quality dairy and meat products which is another factor that boosts the industry demand due to rising awareness towards benefits associated with such feed additives.

Market Segmentation

Feed phosphate is can be segmented on the basis end users into livestock, poultry, swine, cattle, aquatic animals, etc.

By the types of phosphates it can be segmented into calcium phosphates, magnesium phosphates, sodium phosphates and ammonium phosphates.

Regional/Geographic Analysis

Asia-Pacific is the largest market for feed phosphate and is also the fastest growing followed by North America and Europe. China accounts for the world's highest feed phosphate consumption. In Europe the market is highly regulated.

Opportunities
