Polylactic acid is a bio-degradable thermoplastic, which is derived from renewable sources such as sugarcane, corn starch, wheat, tapioca roots, and the resulting polylactic acid formed is pressed out in the form of fiber by melt-spinning. Given that PLA fiber can be recycled(ground up, and melted)/ can be decomposed into carbon-dioxide and water by natural processes, it is regarded as highly sustainable than any other non-cellulosic synthetic fiber.
