Electrocoating is an electrochemical method to apply a durable coating solution for several commercial purposes. Electrocoats have been considered to be used extensively in building and construction projects, heavy duty equipment, automotive, steel castings, engines, defense equipment, electronics, computer parts, etc.

Technology

Electrocoating material is manufactured using an immersion coating process in which negative and positive charges applied to different components using a water suspension. The surface to be coated is charged negatively, while the paint particles are positively charged and are suspended in the water suspension in which the surface to be coated is submerged. Electric current is then passed through the water suspension. This electric current compels the paint particles to coat the negatively charged surface electrically.

Market Dynamics

The Electrocoating market had seen an upward lift with an increase in the demand for automotive in the global market due to its use as a finisher for several automotive parts. Increase in the end user market for decorative products, hardware tools, eyeglass frames, jewelry, etc. had improved the market demand for electrocoats. The growing future prospects for the market for heavy duty equipment and bulk finishing, metal furnishing, electronic equipment, etc. is positively reinforcing the growth for the market of electrocoating.

Market Segmentation

The global market for electrocoating products can be segment as Cathodic or Anodic, based on the type of the electrocoating procedure applied. On the other hand, based on the application of the final product, the market can be either for automobiles, heavy duty equipment or appliances.

Geographic Analysis

Driven by the appliance industry and automotive, the market for electrocoats is more developed in the developing countries like India, Brazil and China. The markets in the middle east regions and in Africa are catching up with these countries as well. Apparently, the market is most developed in the Asia Pacific region while the North American and European markets have a low growth prospects for electrocoats.

Opportunities

The global market for electrocoating is driven by the increasing growth in the demand for automotive and appliances, and thus had been growing at the CAGR X.XX% currently. The products give a better performance and a stronger outcome while complying with the environmental regulations. The overall growth opportunities for the market seem bright with a constraint of high cost of capital for new entrants.

Key Players

BASF SE, KCC Corporation, Nippon Paint Holdings Co Ltd, Axalta Coating Systems, Hawking Electrotechnology, PPG Industries, Metokote Corporation Inc, Valspar Corporation, etc. are the few main global players in the market for electrocoating.
