The carbon prepreg is a sheet of Carbon fibre which is woven along with the resins and resembles a cloth, woven with carbon fibres and which is rolled into sheets. The carbon fibres are very strong and stiff about 3 to 10 times stiffer than the glass fibres. The advantages of these carbon fibre prepreg are its high strength and corrosion resistance. Disadvantages of these fibres include lower conductivity than aluminium; therefore, a lightning protection mesh or coating is necessary for aircraft parts that are prone to lightning strikes. Carbon fibre is available as both dry fabric and prepreg material and basically is either of gray or black in colour. Also these fibres have a very high potential of causing galvanic corrosion if they are used with the metallic fasteners and structures. The global market of carbon prepreg was at about USD XX million in 2016 which is projected to reach USD XX million by 2022 with a CAGR of XX% during the forecasted period.

Market Dynamics

The major driver for the market of carbon prepreg are the properties of high temperature resistance along with similarly high abrasion resistance. The high demand from the automotive sector is also a driver along with its growing use in ballistic protection. Another driver is its usage as asbestos substitute in tough applications.

The restraint for this market is that carbon fibre prepreg has high cost. The maintenance constraints that is faced is also another restraint for this market.

High research spending and the rising awareness in society is the major opportunity for this market.Development of advanced software tools for the development of prepreg product is also an opportunity for this market.

Geographic Analysis

Currently the market for carbon fibres has highest consumption in the Europe region. North America region follows at the second position and the Asia Pacific region is at third position. At the end of forecasted period of 2022 there will be no change in the position of the highest consumer but there is a high chance that the Asia Pacific region will overtake North America as the second highest consumer. The reason for this is that the countries of the Asia Pacific region are highly advancing their defence and aviation sector which in turn tends to increase the consumption in these regions.
