Platform Chemicals are building blocks that can be transformed into an extensive variety of chemicals or materials like fiber products and starch derivatives. They constitute an intermediate molecule (such as C5-C6 Carbohydrates, syngas, lignin, pyrolytic acid) whose structure enables the generation of a number of derivatives at a competitive cost. A platform ranges from single carbon molecules such as biogas and syngas, to mixed carbon-carbohydrates stream. These platforms can be converted to a wide range of marketable products by blending thermal, biological and chemical processes.
