Beverage processing is a major economic contributor, together with the food processing industry. To manufacture, store and transport the beverages, different types of material was used, after which certain polymers made their mark due to the following characteristics. The polymer used in the industry is required to be corrosion-resistant and chemically inert, since the shelf life of bottler can stretch for years making this characteristic important to ensure safety of consumption. It should also be non-wetting and lightweight. Moreover, permeation should be low so that the taste of the beverage remains unaffected by the container. Also, to allow easy cleaning and maintenance, the polymer should be chemically resistant.

Market Dynamics

Despite the existence of players in the beverage processing polymer industry, technological advances are still needed to promote and support green technology. That said, hygiene should not be compromised. Moreover, the parts used in the processing industry as well as the bottles in which they are stored should be efficient and chemically resistant so that quality is maintained. The cost also needs to be watched so that the return on investment stays high.
