Artisan Vehicles Unveiled The Toughest And Biggest All-Electric Truck For Mining Industry

A California-based company, Artisan Vehicles, developed an all-electric vehicle, especially to fulfill the purpose of the mining industry. The recent trend to manufacture the toughest, biggest and electric vehicles have led the company to develop a 40-tonne underground haul truck.

Several industries are beginning to understand the advantages of electric propulsion and they are more inclined toward implementing it in their vehicles. One of such companies, Artisan Vehicles, unveiled Z40, a battery-electric vehicle that weighs 40 ton to bring zero-emission vehicles in the underground industry. Z40 is equipped with four electric motors and has a battery swap technology to change battery pack and prolong the operation time of the truck and make it more comparable to the traditional diesel truck. In addition, they redesigned Z40 to make much smaller than other 40-tonne mining trucks. With the help of its all-electric powertrain, the company claims that the new truck has almost double the horsepower of a comparable diesel machine and produces only 1/8th the heat of its diesel competitors. Furthermore, the vehicle produces no toxic diesel emissions, making eco-friendly. It is said that the new truck will be used at the Kirkland Lake Goldmine. The CEO of the mine, Tony Makuch, commented that Z40 offers a game-changing technology for our Macassa mine. Hauling more ore in evert truckload means we can produce more production with a smaller truck fleet. This electric vehicle is a vital part of our expansion plans in Kirkland Lake.

Mike Kasaba, the CEO of Artisan Vehicles, stated, “It has been a demanding year for the company. We are dumbfounded and thankful for the reception that we received throughout the mining industry. Before Z40, the company has developed another battery-powered 2yd, 4-tonne Load/Haul/Dump (LHD) underground mining vehicle. Therefore, it is clear that the market is ready for an electric transformation that we are offering.” The novel developments such as Z40 are nothing but a nod toward sustainable mining industry. Such electric vehicles with zero-emission are helping to reduce the harmful impact on the environment. Moreover, apart from Artisan Vehicles, there are several companies that are investing more money and time in R&D to develop more powerful, efficient, and all-electric machinery. The leading companies such as Hitachi, Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Belaz are also developing all-electric drive mining trucks that can simplify mining and enhance productivity in the mining industry.
