Taking all beverages combined, Q2-16 proved to be another uneventful, flat quarter, with small gains made by soft drinks and dairy drinks being neutralized by a poor performance across the alcohol category. Growth within soft drinks remained largely dependent on packaged water which grew and helped to compensate for losses across juice and nectars. Most new water volume came from Poland, aided by a warm May and June, and Turkey, driven by a consumption shift from bulk/HOD water due to health and hygiene concerns.
-A major drop in Russian beer consumption had a significant knock on effect for the region as a whole.
-Within soft drinks, packaged water was once again the driving force.
-PL products continued to face pressure from branded products being sold on promotion.
-The much smaller sports drink category proved to be the most dynamic this quarter.
-The juice and nectars categories saw a turbulent quarter in East Europe due to high prices.
